Form And Culture

To understand how a form is shaped. Establishing a relation between form and culture and culture and form. Develop an understanding about force and form as emphasizing by question what informs the form AAKAR, ROOPA, AAKRUTI. Learning to map the forces Learning to represent them.

Develop a deeper meaning about forms and their relationship with culture
Methodology: discussion, investigation, filed visit, presentation.

In form and culture, first of all, one must understand what is form and what does the culture mean; also why a particular form is there at a particular place. One should also study why the culture is there, and how did it come in the society. In human life, why a certain design is there and how did it come in the human life; how does it work and why is it like that only .When we go out to find, talk with people and observe then only  we get to know the answers. We can not judge what form are they using and which culture they are following without observation .
The subject chosen by me is the baby hammock  used by underprivileged people living by the streets ,people working on a contraction site and rural people. To make this hammock, they make use of the material that is around them and which is easily available. I like their way of using the limited material to make a functional product. They use the tree trunk and fabric (of sari ,pallu or bed sheet) to make this hammock where the baby is very comfortable. It is a safe breathing environment for it. No mater where you stay, the baby can safely sleep inside it. It also is completely portable.
Baby hammock is good form which has a cultural base. If you have a baby in family then there is culture to make a hammock for baby. Thus, there are many forces behind this hammock.
Field Visit And Observation

I went to an under-construction aria, met street-side people and also visited the rural aria.
I observed that, for hammock they use material which is very easily available around them, they use a sari or some fabric and tree trunk. They have limited material and they use it in a smart way. They also reuse it, they make hammock form sari or bedsit or some fabric apart form that they use same sari or bed sheet for sleeping and sitting.
on construction site, a mother works for whole day and hence, she makes the hammock where it is suitable for her. The baby  sleeps in it. He plays in the hammock whole day .At some places people do stitching to make the hummock more comfortable . In rural aria, people who have their own house make wooden stands for the hammock.
To understand the forces behind hammock I brain stormed about the need of hummock -the mother has  to go for work, no one is there to  take care of the baby, baby cant stay on the floor because there could be so many harmful things around it, etc
After the observation and brainstorming I understood the conditions and how the forces are coming  for and categorization of the form of hammock.
